Astrid Lorena Ochoa Campo

Abstract

This interview is placed within the context of migrations of Colombians to the United States and the literary production in English of the last decades by US-Colombian women writers. In this conversation with Ingrid Rojas Contreras we discuss the experiences that inspired her first novel, Fruit of the Drunken Tree (2018). These include emigration from Colombia for the kidnapping of a relative, traveling to Venezuela and then to the United States as refugees. The author also comments on the current immigration situation in the United States and denounces the abuses committed by the current administration in that country.
