Juan Fernando Velásquez Ospina, University of Pittsburgh

Juan Fernando Velásquez Ospina holds BA in music with a specialization in violin (2005), an MA. in music with emphasis on historical musicology from Eafit University (2011), and a Ph.D. in Musicology with a focus on cultural studies and Latin American studies from the University of Pittsburgh (2018). In 2009, he was a fellow of Fundción Carolina in the "Cátedra Robert Stevenson" at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. In 2012, thanks to a grant in Research on Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Medellin, he published the book The Echoes of the Villa: Music in the Periodical Publications of Medellín (1886-1903). In 2013 he was selected as Fulbright-Mincultura Scholar and was Andrew Mellon Scholar for the period 2017-2018. His texts have been published by Artes La Revista: Revista de Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de Antioquia, Boletín de Musicología Casa de las Américas, Latin American Music Review, and Editorial Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He was also a member of the Eafit Symphony Orchestra and has been a professor at Eafit University and the University of Pittsburgh.
