Abstract

This article examines the Colombian comedy Los Reyes (2005) to explore the notion of trapdoor (Gossett, Stanley, Burton) in the context of an increasing presence of trans and travesti life in the mass media. My analysis confirms that the ambivalence of the trans body activates a series of mechanisms that in the long run tie trans life to a heteronormative vision of gender and sexuality that seeks to sanitize it so that it can be shown to prime-time audiences.
