Abstract

This article describes the results of an investigation on the role played by women in three Colombian art exhibitions: two from the late 19th century and one from the early 20th century. Studying the structure of these exhibitions and the types and genres of the exhibited works, as well as analyzing the catalogues, government decrees and the minutes of the juries, the subordinate place assigned to the women artists is shown in opposition to the privileged position of the male exhibitors.
