Abstract

An interview with Lina Flórez and Pablo Pérez, respectively, the scriptwriter and illustrator of Historieta doble, a graphic history that traces the roots of participatory action research to the Caribbean coast of Colombia and to the work of sociologist Orlando Fals Borda. This graphic history shows how Fals Borda combined research and theory with political participation and activism, using the comics of Ulianov Chalarka to capture rural historical memory and allow peasants to see themselves as historical actors. Parallel to this story, it recounts Joanne Rappaport’s research process that uncovered this history.

This study resulted in the monograph El cobarde no hace historia: Orlando Fals Borda y los inicios de la investigación-acción participativa. For the past four years, she has been dedicated to creating a graphic history about Fals, in collaboration with Lina Flórez and Pablo Pérez of Altais Comics.
