Three Scaffolds for Colombian Comics

Abstract

This is a visual essay that proposes three essential scaffoldings for the sustainability of Colombian comics: consciousness and development of its ways of value, labor relationships and infrastructures. These three categories are inspired by the theory of artworlds by sociologist Howard S. Becker, which states that artistic practices are constituted by cooperation systems in which multiple roles and flowing of information and matter intervenes, and in my own participant observation as an author, member of creative collectives and comics agent in Colombia. Additionally, the essay uses multiple visual metaphors that extend the theorical posture of the three scaffoldings and, by means of strategies of graphic composition germane to comics, create new meanings about such theory.
