Abstract

The review of the book "Histories of Art in Colombia. Identities, Materialities, Migrations, and Geographies," edited by Olga Acosta, Natalia Lozada, and Juanita Solano, describes the proposal of this editorial project. The book's main focus is on horizontality and de-hierarchization in the artistic narrative, moving away from art history centered on specific artists and periods to include a variety of objects and themes, such as ceramics and tableware, that have traditionally been marginalized. The work emphasizes the importance of materiality, not only in the design of the book but also in the analysis of artworks, exploring their physical structure and the materials used. Additionally, the book incorporates feminist perspectives, questioning the entrenched gender structures in the interpretation of art and suggesting further research on the interaction between the local and the global, as well as the impact of digitalization on the materiality of Colombian art.
