Abstract

In this essay, I study the popular festivities as a recurring theme in 19th-century Colombian narrative through three authors: Manuel Ancízar, José Manuel Groot, and Eugenio Díaz. The purpose is to analyze how the different representations of the popular festivities by these authors showcase the social ties of the young Republic of New Granada, revealing multiple conflicts and contradictions, but also possible horizons for national consolidation. I propose a reading that rediscovers the literary and political vitality of these texts that continue to question our present.
