Abstract

The book is a persuasive work that advocates for the need to complement morphological and phonetic studies of Afro-Hispanic languages in the Americas with archival research and comparative law. Language Contact is part of an ongoing effort to study the origin and evolution of the enigmatic Chocó Spanish (EC) and combines fieldwork (2014–15) conducted in Villa España with extensive archival research. The study, divided into seven sections, covers the debate on Creole Spanish, a description of EC, an analysis of its historical context, and a legal hypothesis about its genesis.
