Maite Villoria Nolla, The University of the West Indies

Maite Villoria Nolla is Professor and Head of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at The University of the West Indies. She earned her BA in Hispanic and Latin American Studies from the University of Southampton (UK), and her MA and PhD in Latin American Studies from the University of Nottingham (UK).

Dr. Villoria focuses her research on Hispanic Studies (both Latin American and Peninsular) and the Spanish language. Her main lines of research include Hispanic crime fiction, narcoculture in literature and film, historical and collective memory, and the rearticulation of urban imaginaries in Latin American literature and cinema. She has presented her research at more than thirty international conferences and published in prestigious academic journals such as Iberoamericana (Liverpool, UK) and Cuadernos de Literatura (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá), among others. Additionally, she serves on the editorial boards of academic journals across the Caribbean, Spain, and the United States.
