She is a Professor of Spanish at Central Michigan University. Before that she taught at Radford University in Virginia for three years. ​ She teaches a wide variety of classes on Caribbean Literature and Culture in Spanish and French, US Latino Literature and Culture, Latin American Literature and Culture, and Colombian Literature. She is the co-author of Rosario Ferré y Mayra Montero: entre la espada y la cruz.
